Via Swopper - reduces costs A scientific view of "Swopper".Since 1998 the company “aeris-Impulsmöbel“ has been offering companies a low-cost opportunity for healthy, dynamic sitting on“Swopper“ and providing positive affects on the health of their employees, therefore reducing costs. Parallel to these efforts Professor Dr. Detlef Krüger from the HamburgTechnical College has been recording and analyzing working conditions, special attention being given to mobility. The most recent analysis is based on answers from over 1000 employees. The unequivocal conclusion: The “Swopper“ successfully prevents back pain! In concrete terms for companies this means: employees who sit on Swopper are much less prone to back problems than others. Background and additional information about the study.

Back pain

has become a national illness. One in two adults in Germany have at some time suffered from back problems. 72 million working days are lost annually. In the US – the second leading reason for a personto see a health care provider is – low back pain (source – "The Chair" – Galen Cranz, Ph.D.) 73 % of all managers complain about back problems as a cause for worker absenteeism. Approximately one third of all sick days are attributed tospinal and muscle disorders. Back problems account for a considerable loss in productivity for businesses..

Swopper was developed

in order to prevent and treat back pain. Whether and to what extent this objective is reached in practice is to be shown in an
independent, constantly updated study. This study was initiated in 1998.Additional information and analysis of the study is in the possession of Professor Dr. Detlef Krüger, who heads a research group on “workingsociology” and ergonomics at the Hamburg Technical College in Germany. Results of the analysis The results of 1000 questionnaires are as follows
:

• 91 percent of the employees involved worked more than 2 hours at acomputer, almost 40 percent work for more than 6 hours.
• 50 percent found prolonged sitting at the workplace "a severe to verysevere health hazard". 44 percent accepted the strain on their health as average and 10 percent as slight.
• Well over 80 percent had suffered at some point from physical pain or tension. A breakdown of that figure showed that back pain accounted for 80 percent. More than 70 percent had suffered from pain in the neck and more than 50 percent suffered from pain in theshoulder region. Around 25 percent mentioned having experienced pain in the arms.
• 42 percent wrote that the problems had lasted for more than one month, or had developed into a chronic condition.
• A third had been off sick on one or more occasions due to these problems.
• Around 90 percent of the project participants saw a clear connection between their health problems and prolonged sitting. Almost thesame numbers were prepared to be proactive and take part in a health program at the work place. Swoppers were put to use in 90 percent of the cases for computer work,70 percent for general office work and 40 percent for specific office tasks.
• 60 percent of the employees involved used the Swopper more than four hours a day, another 22 percent - two to four hours and around18 percent - sat for up to two hours on what was for them a completely new active, dynamic sitting instrument.
• 90 percent said that the constant change of position on Swopper was the greatest advantage; almost 40 percent noticed higherproductivity and 35 percent emphasized the freedom of movement.
• In answer to the question “Has your health or your generalfeeling of well-being improved through using a Swopper?“ a
clear majority of almost 2/3 answered “Yes”, “Yes definitely” or“Yes, greatly improved

The survey results – an appraisal

When we take into consideration that the “only” thing, which was changed, was the way people sit, the results are remarkable! No medication, no operation, no massage, no physiotherapy or the like.Simply the new way of sitting on Swopper clearly improved the health or general feeling of well being of the majority of the participants. Theconnection between “dynamic sitting“ and health and well-being is clearly documented in this study. Using Swopper is not only good for your back; it keeps the whole person active and alert. The results of this study underline the findings of the Medical College in Hanover in cooperation with the AOK in Niedersachsen: preventing back problems on a national scale brings not only health, but also financial benefits. This means that specific preventive measures are more effective and more economical than many complicated cures and therapies. The figures speak for themselves More and more companies are introducing health programs as part of their quality management. Why? Every working day, which is lost, costs acompany around Euro 500. In the case of back problems it is not unusual for an employee to be off work for an average of 20 days. Active, dynamic sitting is seen today as one of the most effective preventive measures.
